So beautiful - such a loss. I have an enormous weakness for hippocampus (horse body/fish tail), and always love to see the different ways that artists mingle land and water creatures, especially in the depiction of the fish tail. This is like lush wood-carving, but alive - it's a delight. So glad that you have a visual record of the piece.
